October on the coast means light that arrives at a lower angle, a particular stillness, the mood of a season turning inward. The work in this exhibition follows that turn.

These artists have been shaped by different worlds — the California coastline, the Persian tradition, forty years of painting this specific landscape, the felt memory of swimming in open water. What they share is an interest in the interior: the states that live alongside the external world, the emotions that don't have easy names, the beauty that arrives through atmosphere rather than description.
