Rooted in Nature, Held by the Earth
The work in this exhibition begins with the natural world — not always as subject, and not always as material, but as the force that holds the work in place.
These artists have been shaped by water, stone, plant, and light — by the places that formed them and the earth they keep returning to. Painters follow water and pigment to where they want to go. Jewelers hold ancient stone in their hands and find the present moment in it. A textile artist draws color from root and bark. A glass artist lets light pass through silica as if through tide. A swimmer translates the felt memory of the ocean into paint.
None of this work is illustrating nature. It is in conversation with it.
